How Your Birth Order Influences Your Life Adjustment
Depending on the different birth order, people will have different influence of their life adjustment. In the article,
Lucille Forer talks about four types of birth order: only child, oldest child, middle child and youngest child. The author also talks
about their family position of these types of birth order.
Children in their family group will have their specific role to be played depending on which birth order they are. In
the article, Lucille Forer shares his ideas of different birth order and their responsible. There are 4 important ideas he talks about in
the article. The first one is parents usually expect their oldest child to be more capable and more responsible than the younger
children. The second one is the middle child may think of himself as able to do things better than other people because he is usually
more capable than his younger siblings. The third one is the youngest child may develop the self-concept that he is less able to do
many things than other people. The last one is the only child learns to take care of themselves as much as possible.
I agree with the author’s ideas. First of all, as an oldest child, you are a leader of your siblings, you have to do the
things you expect to do and help your family to raise your siblings. Second, the middle child and youngest child have less responsible
than the oldest brother; because they knew sometimes they could get help from their parents and their older siblings. Third, the only
child knew he/she is the only child in their family, they don’t have to have responsible to take care of their siblings because they don’t
have, so the only things they have to do is better to take care of themselves, then their parents don’t have to worry about them.
These information shows us that birth order gives children a specific role to act in their family, to help their family.
In conclusion, different types of birth order gives you different responsible to do in your family. These responsible
also influence you when you toward other people and help you develop specific patterns of behavior.
